Issoudun is the second largest town
in the department of Indre in central France and is located in
the very heart of the historical province of Berry, around half
way between Bourges and Châteauroux. It is an attractive
fortified town lying in a beautiful region with chateaux and
vineyards all around. The town has been awarded a "4-flower"
classification for the quality of its environment, and in particular
its public parks and gardens. Issoudun has visible medieval roots
despite the fact that many of its fortifications have been destroyed.
There is still a sixteenth century town gate standing, and also
the famous White Tower, a distinctive high cylindrical edifice. |
