Hesdin Nord - Pas de Calais

Hesdin is an attractive town in the
Pas-de-Calais department in northern France. The Canche river
flows through the centre of the town, while the central square,
the Place d'Armes, is overlooked by the impressive16th-17th century
town hall, with its belfry and ornate façade. Built in
the Renaissance style between 1563 and 1629, the ornate and striking
balcony bears the Spanish coat of arms as well as many figures
and other coats of arms. Adjoining the Balcony is the Office
du Tourisme. A bustling market is held in the square every Thursday.
There are many charming views from the bridges of the Canche,
wending its way through the town under the bridges over which
the cobbled streets run. |

d'Opale. The influence of Flemish culture can be seen along the
Belgian border with windmills, canals and graceful Flemish architecture.
The Somme valley is a legacy to World War 1 with its memorial
cemeteries and poppy-strwewn battlefields. The large, Euro-oriented
city of Lille offers great culture and a charming historic centre,
aswell as the new hi-tech district EuraLille. |
