Boulogne Nord Pas de Calais
 |
 |
 |
|
Boulogne-sur-Mer is a city in the
department of Pas-de-Calais in northern France. Boulogne-sur-Mer
is the most important fishing port in France, with 7,000 inhabitants
deriving part or all of their livelihoods from fishing. The major
port of Calais is only 30 km away and provides major connections
to Dover in the UK. Nausicaa, The French National Sea Centre,
is a science centre opened in 1991, entirely dedicated to the
relationship between mankind and the sea. It houses aquaria,
exhibitions on marine fauna, and the exploitation and management
of marine resources. The castle-museum of Boulogne, in the fortified
town, houses many important exhibitions, while inside the medieval
castle are Roman walls and rooms built in the 13th century including
La Barbière, a banqueting hall, chapel and covered parapet
walk. |

Places to visit in Nord-Pas
de Calais |
|
 |
Nord-Pas de Calais lies in northern
France where the Channel ports of Dunkerque, Calais and Boulogne
are the focal points along a busy coastline that stretches from
the Somme estuary to the Belgian border. The white cliffs running
from Boulogne to Calais provide dramatic scenery along the Cote
d'Opale. The influence of Flemish culture can be seen along the
Belgian border with windmills, canals and graceful Flemish architecture.
The Somme valley is a legacy to World War 1 with its memorial
cemeteries and poppy-strwewn battlefields. The large, Euro-oriented
city of Lille offers great culture and a charming historic centre,
aswell as the new hi-tech district EuraLille. |
